I just measured a spare spring I have, and it is 4 3/8 inches long. When replacing the spring, rough up the shaft where the spring wraps around it with sand paper. Also, the spring might be ok, but the sliding parts of the turn signal mechanism might need lubracation. The indicators on my newly restored '62 Spider would not self cancel, even with a new spring. A shot of lithium grease into ther opening where the stalk exits the column housing solved the problem.
