The area is very cramped due to the aircon compressor and piping, and the loom disappears under the battery box. I guess I will have to pull it out to find out where the other end goes.

The charge light did come on with the engine stopped, and go out when it runs.

The strange thing is, the 3 wires to the 'voltage regulator' don't seem to go to the alternator at all. Looking at typical regulator schematics on the web, one is likely to be ground, another +12V, and the third the rotor/field coil. Of the 2 small connections to the alternator, one (green) goes via the diode into the loom, and the other brown one straight into the loom. One must be the field coil, the other the warning light. At the dash end the warning light is a green wire, so I am guessing that is the one with the diode in. (?)

Somewhere there must be a join between the output of the voltage regulator and the field coil (brown?).

I have been trying to identify the alternator without success- a pic is attached. There is no easy access from below and the aircon system makes it a non-trivial job to take it out for inspection. Anyone recognise this type of alternator? If I can ID it maybe I can find the correct wiring schematic and remove the awful twisted-wires mess.
