He had an amp in there.

The big red wire is for power supply (note that he had the end taped to avoid shorting to ground). It appears that he ran that wire all the way from the battery up front (from your other pic). Check to see whether there's a fuse holder (with fuse) for that line close to the battery. If not, I suggest you either put one in or disconnect that wire from the battery.

The two RCA connectors are for front and rear audio line out. The small wire is likely the line for a trigger signal to turn the amp on when the front headunit is turned on (but I don't know why there is a connector there).

There probably are some speaker wires somewhere that goes from the amp to the speakers.
