Mountains in Vancouver
I went for a drive to-day up one of the local mountains. The car was Fantastic. I have a bit of a shudder in first gear when starting off any thoughts?

Thanks, John

It's great to see your car on the road again, John! You certainly picked a great day for taking it out.
With respect to the shudder, the following possible causes come to mind:
- Rear suspension (bushing or shocks worn).
- Differential play
- Tire diameter on rear wheels not the same (uneven wear front/rear, then a former front and rear wheel on each axle).

John
Were you at the "All British Car Show" yesterday?
If so, saw your car parked on a side street.
I hadn't seen a 2600 Spider close up in years and it really is a handsome tourer.

Upon a another look--your car is close to black, the one I saw was grey.

Tim W.'s car is medium grey metallic (and newly restored like John's car). It's possible his Chilliwack mechanic took it for a test drive to the show.

Franco, the tire size is 205-55 zr-16, the rims have been modified by the prior owner in Germany. I do not have any info on him or I would contact him regarding this. The drum brakes have not been ground, nor do the tires rub at all under hard cornering. The steering is very heavy unless you are moving. For the purists out there I have a set of stock rims with new tires that could go on the car if I ever decided to go back to the handling charaistics of 1963. The car is actually Dark Blue in colour with Grey carpeting and Grey Leather seats. The car has Weber 45'S with K & N filters, which were not stock to the car. I will leave the concours for others, mine was meant to be driven. I admire the effort that goes into taking a car to concours level, this was not the road I chose.
I believe the shudder could be in the drive shaft or in the transmission mount itself, I hope it is not the rear main seal. When I take the Spider back to its Lair I will put it in the air and check things out. In the meantime the sun is shining and the Valley is calling.

Toim just dropped by with his car and confirmed that Lyn had taken it to the car meet. His car now has red paint on the rear bumper, meaning it was probably hit while parked there.

Could the bad shudder be that the top is down and there is snow on the ground?
Bad Joke,
Nice car.
