2600 Spider Values-Auction, Market, Real?

Hi-looking at re-insuring our 2600 Spider.

Values have been up and all over the place over 2006/7-from recent Coys results to Thieson to ebay + other dealers.

Has any member kept a spreadsheet or followed sales over past couple of years? I need to supply some info on real values to my insurer.

Many thks
Haden

Real value depends on condition, which seems to be closely related to the cost/time since restoration.

I don't trust buyer's guides (because the best, original cars change hands "above market value" without ever being recorded) or auction results (because the auction may involve "shill bidders").

About the only thing you can trust that should matter to you and your insurance is: "how much does it cost to buy or bring a car to the condition your car is in." So, the deeper question is "what condition is your car in" and "what cars in comparable conditions have been sold recently." As you probably can imagine, the differentiatior is documentation -- meaning lots of high resolution detail photographs.

I would suggest you have the car looked at by an independent valuer and then inform your insurer by post, with all the pictures and general discription of the car.
over here in Germany it costs about €200, dont know what that is in NZ$ but I think the prices wont vary much country to country.

Regards

Richard

Oh by the way, mine is an un-restored car and is valued at €40,000.
Not bad when you consider I paid €15,000 and have only had to put in about €7 k's worth of money over the last 7 years, the biggest expenditure was the gear box rebuild, the rest was just general bits and bobs and some new tyres.

thks for this-ours is mid resto-so have taken detail pics and gathered as much info on prices over past 2x years and will submit to insurer and see what they make of it.
Theres only 4 here in NZ and they haven never gone into the public market--independent NZ valuer would then only look at Euro/UK/USA values.
So hopefully will come to a happy arrangment with insurer.
Many thks
Haden
