My old 1900 CSS

Here I am at work, hiding out from the relatives who want me to chauffeur them to the post-Xmas sales, and my avatar pic won't upload...so here it is for your enjoyment...I'll bring some other pics to scan soon.

It's my old 1900 CSS #001879 from the mid '80s. Behind me in the photo is Michel Caboor in Martin Swig's 1900 Zagato, in from of me (just out of shot) is John Lamm (of Road & Track fame) in his Lancia B20 GT(?).

My late father and I traded our AROCS time trial '67 GTV for the 1900 CSS, which was owned by a gent in San Diego, who had bought it from Bill Biggs. It's shown (before the trade) in the Alfa Buyer's guide in the 1900 section also. It still had the downdraft Solex's and the 5-on-the-thee column shift.

It was a fun car to race- great engine by Bill, fun to slide in the corners, and would outbrake almost anyone in our class. It would keep up with most cars in the under 2.5 liter class at the Monterey Historics, except for a certain white 8V Siata and except for Martin Swig's 1900 Corto Gara. I also did AROSC time trials and rallys, and occasionally drove it to college and on dates. Al Cortes helped out with getting the heater to work, which made for happier dates!

Humorously (to me!), my dad could never start the 1900 (it always started first-time for me...), and generally left it to me to play with. After four fun-filled years, it was sold during my parent's divorce to the Hayashi collection in Japan- wonder if it's still there?

FYI, I cropped and resized your picture so you can use it as avatar. Right-click on the images and use "Save picture as..." to store them on your computer, then upload one of them using the "Edit Avatar" section of the UserCP.
