When I've shipped biplane flying wires around, the trick is to get several orders together and ship them inside of a standard PVC plastic pipe with couplings glued onto the end, and screw-in caps to seal them. Virtually indestructable, and water-tight. Doesn't add enough weight to really change the economics.
