German 2600 Berlina
FYI: the eBay auction of the German 2600 Berlina ended today. All bids failed to meet the reserve set by the seller.

Well, it is one of, if not the best in the world....and few people even know about, much less care about 102 or 106 berlinas, so I'm not surprised....

The auction ended at EUR 8,050 with 11 bids.
Given the bids on both cars, the market must be very soft for these models.

Guess I COULD sell the Guilia Super (and there's at lease one person on the BB looknig for a Super) to fund the purchase...and I've always wanted a 2600...maybe a few more glasses of wine tonight might solve this for me
(no connection with the seller)

The owner just finished pouring A LOT of money in the car. Paint, interior, chrome, etc. Before handing it over to the him, I drove it around for a few weeks as a daily driver and it never gave me an issue. The only reason the car is for sale is because the owner is really pressed for space and 2 cars from his small collection need to go.

I've emailed the seller, seeing if I could see the car on Thursday. I'm seriously thinking about buying it and selling my Giulia Super...

Questions:
* Does the 2600 berlina have a mechanical fuel pump IE, if a berlina has an electric fuel pump, should I assume a duff mechanical fuel pump?
* Other than the drive shaft and carbs, any mechanical differences between the berlina and the sprint & spider?
* Any "unobtanium" 2600 mechanical parts I should know of?
Thanks,
Peter

Few differences Mechanically
The earlier 2600 sedans had a five speed column shift and a bench front seat like my two liter sedan. This might not be a later model with bucket seats, but it has a floor shift five speed. No matter. The drive line is longer than the 2600 spider, and it might have rear drum brakes (not sure of that).
As to the fuel pump, not sure if 2600 berlina has mechanical fuel pump, but if so it is almost bullet proof like the one in my sedan. And it might be a good Bendix like the spider. No problem either way.
Weird carburetors, however, because it has two -- one larger than the other. Seemed to have worked okay on both of the two I sold to Tom Zat back in 1976. So, don't worry. Both were, I seem to recall, solex, and similar to those on Giulia normale, but different sizes.
Only unobtanium part is the cam cover. Even this car has a spider cam cover. Tom Zat has one. Adrian Ratcliffe in Vancouver BC has another (I sold them both of theirs long ago) Maybe Adrian might sell his, because his engine was in his race car and not in use right now. The berlina has a cam cover without the "notch" for the crossover pipe in back since the air cleaners sit on top of the carburetors. Of course the intake manifold is different too -- Obviously.
Beautiful car. I drooled over it when it was the winner of the concours. Just had to have pictures from everyone who would send them. Car might never be worth as much as a 1900, but value is in the eye of the buyer. As I was once told about my sedan: "It is so rare as to be either priceless or worthless." Nice that it is in such spectacular shape. I doubt you could find one anywhere in the world (except the one so carefully being restored in Europe by a member of the bb) that would not cost FAR more just to get into shape. And I don't think the car in Europe will be for sale. Tom Zat might sell his two. He seems to have lost interest. Jay

Man I really was wrong.
Excuse me. Maybe I should look at pictures before I write. I apologize to one and all. This car in California is a series one car, with bench seat and five on the tree. And now I see the long ago material I put in this thread. Boy, time goes fast when you're having fun (or even when you are sick and not having fun). But car in California seems near perfect except for not having the right cam cover. Seems it did not hve it when for sale before complete restoration either. Other than that, neato. Jay
