My mistake.

The green car with the red interior and white roof (as per the link) is owned by Delmas Greene in Florida (or was)..

He had it at the convention in Detroit last summer.

Just 47 102/2000 cars were bodied in total by Vignale, according to Ms.Ruocco, who used to be the head of the archives before she retired.

Not all 47 are the same. I know of at least 10 that are different from each other.

If your car is the white car with the red interior that was in Los Angeles some 20+ years ago, at one time it was owned by Angie Dickenson, the actress...

Yes, the car is white with red interior. Is it known how many of the original 47 are still accounted for?

I think nobody knows for sure if exactly 47 cars that were made. Geraldo in Austria and a Vignale owner from Switzerland started a register for these cars. He speaks English and can be contacted via his web site at 2000 Vignale Coupe.

Lots of action

This has been a busy day for this thread, but I guess it is a big day when one of the twelve or so remaining cars resurfaces after so many years. I noticed that this is the most recent discussion since 2003. How many people on this thread are owners? I'm wondering how so much information is shared amongst those here even though the original information is hard to come across.

Yes, it is a big day for a car that belongs to a limited and therefore production line to show up again (I hope we get to see pictures soon ).

You may be the only owner who participated directly in this thread.

One of the reason there is so much discussion is that the group of 2000/2600 enthusiasts are not only interested in the cars they own but also in the history of the whole family of these cars.

Special bodied cars appear and disappear on the scene. When they change hands, it is often to owners who do their own thing and/or do not want to be identified. Rarely is a special-bodied car the only car they own or the crown jewel in their collection (mostly due to higher priced Giulias or Giuliettas with race provenance). Language and cultural preferences can also be a huge barrier (e.g. when dealing with owners in Italy or Japan who do not want to give out the chassis number).

You're right, I don't think anyone knows for certain how many were made, but that is the figure that was given to me by Elvira Ruocco

I understand. Some of the uncertainty (if not confusion) is based on information I received that 102.02 series chassis numbers may not have been used exclusively by Vignale but may have been a "special bodies" line (including design studies).

On that note, would you mind sharing with us how the car resurfaced and what you know about its history? Are you sure this is the Angie Dickinson car?

Funny thing is that last week two more Vignale coupes turned up. I received some pictures - one car is in good one in a very bad condition, both in Switzerland and both of the single headlamp sort - like Delmas Greenes car. I trying to get more information about these cars...

This car has been in my family for a number of years now. I'd looked for information on it before but thanks to the glory of the internet and you all, I've just recently been able to find out more information. The car came up in discussion recently so I started looking around again. I would like to begin compiling the car's individual history but it appears from the discussions I've read that obtaining original records may prove difficult.

This car does have the double headlamps and looks similar to the "Type 3b" on your register. I'll take a look soon to see the flag colors etc.

This is very true (especially under California's privacy protection laws). On the upside, I'm often surprised by how much information shows up through hearsay (maybe somebody remembering having seen a car in some specific location at some specific point in time) and/or facts or hints that are revealed by somebody rummaging through an old photo album, which may provide leads to other owners or even a previous owner. In my experience, patience, tenacity and public exposure (with a healthy dose of collaboration) are the keys to getting such surprises!

So, welcome to the eclectic group of "forensic car historians" and welcome to AlfaBB!
