Roadster Two Liter grocery getter

Well for the first time ever I saw a Cast Iron Two Liter Roadster in the Publix grocery store parking lot. When the bag boy put the groceries in the trunk for me he commented; "this is why I am a bag boy and not a cashier!" Old blue made his day and his comment made mine.

The trunk swallowed up an entire shopping cart full of groceries and the rear shelf could have held another cart full. This was our first trip to the grocery store in over 22 1/2 years but we'll be back soon.

I have taken mine several times to the local Walmart. This is like swimming at the piranha petting zoo, in my opinion. However, so far no door dings. Yes, it will hold a full basket full of groceries.

Meanwhile, I want to know what Walmart employee routinely parks his black Studebaker Hawk at the edge of the parking lot. I want one.

59 102 Touring (first Alfa $500 running)
65 Sprint GT (2nd Alfa, $500 daily driver)
102 Sprint (never did anything with it, but wish I had)
74 Berlina (first new car - now certainly rusted into oblivion)
61 Giulietta Spider G-Prod Race Car (where is it now?)
84 Spider Veloce (rarely drove it, so sold it)
86 Quadrifoglio (Dull car - no more 115s for me)

Current Alfas
59 102 Touring Roadster - restoration complete, enough Alfa for any rational man. Or irrational, for that matter
1971 Alfa Montreal (see above comment regarding rationality)

And past...
Two 1946 Stampe SV4C (c/n 294 "Rocinante" - wife's favorite airplane. RIP), and c/n 235 "La Bon Temps Femme" (gone to a new home, but never forgotten)
Zlin 50LA (+9 -6 gees, titanium spar, 1200 lbs, 260HP rumored to now be in Brazil)
1946 Luscombe 8A
Starduster Too (recently spotted at the Nevada City, CA airport - over 20 years and an entire continent separating it from our stewardship in Binghamton, NY)
1955 Cessna 170B (wife taught me to fly tailwheel in this)

And present...
64 Mooney M20E ("Rambo". My faithful steed for over 30 years) Nearly 50 years old, and just returned from a trip to Argentina in him
Newest in the fleet
1967 Piper Super Cub on Wipline amphibious floats (a true "all terrain vehicle")
2010 Triumph Thunderbird

You can snap roll an Alfa only one time...

I am always hungry but usually take the 164-S when I go grocery shopping:-)

Don, I suggest that you leave a note on the Stude's windshield letting him know you are interested, with your contact information. The owner may or may not want to sell now but perhaps if you are willing to wait 7 years like I did...you could own a Studebaker! I like the Golden Hawk as well. There is (or was) a Studebaker plant here in Georgia building "Continuation Hawks" in Douglasville. I went there for a plant tour about 7 or 10(?) years ago. It was a kind of small scale new manufacturing and old car restoration shop.

Iron,

I'm in a 12 step program for people who tend to acquire too much mobile machinery. Something would have to go before I get a Stude, but all of the Hawks as well as many of the Champions and Commanders just make me swoon. Great designs by any measure.

I'm keeping my eyes open down here in Uruguay, however. They have a LOT of old cars in daily use, and that many more lingering in barns. New cars are terribly expensive, so they keep stuff up a long time and a lot better than we have in the US.

Don, you are preaching to the choir and I was out looking at trucks just yesterday.

Repeat after me: "I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means and I also know how to live in prosperity...I can do all things through Him who strengthens me." Philippians 4:11-13 I hope that helps but we can not guarantee it will work in all situations!
