I noticed no one really answered your question of where to advertise;

EBAY is an obvious choice, but there are some shortcomings, including a winning bidder not following through on the purchase and having to re-list it.

If you advertise in your local Craigslist, it will picked up by this site site mash : alfa romeo : combined classified and auction listingswhich aggregates Craigslist ads from across the country, and it's free

If you're a member of AROC (Alfa Romeo Owners Club) you can advertise for free in their monthly national magazine.

I would also contact your local AROC chapter and go to one of their meetings and let them know of the car's availability. You can find contact info for both national and local groups here: Alfa Romeo Owners Club USA

There's also Hemmings Collector car magazine (Internet and hard copy) .

As an aside, you may find some European interest in it since the dollar just sank again in value, making American sourced cars cheaper for anyone overseas and I think the 2600 is more highly valued by European collectors than American ones.

as evidence of my last point....lol

Hate to see an exodus of restorable cars from the US but have to admire the standards of restoration I have seen our European colleagues attain.

Thanks Bernhard. I will send pictures and other information as soon as I gather them, and like I posted earlier I've not yet come up with a price yet. As soon as I do you'll be one of the first to know.

LOL. I've noticed that as well...
Anamera (1966 Alfa Romeo 2600 Spyder Series 2 for sale: Anamera)
Thanks for the info! In next few days will be some better photos showing the extent of rust and all the original parts (tool kit, working radio, etc)

There is no shortage of high quality restoration here in the US as there is no shortage of willing buyers here either. I will agree with you that the absolute best place to advertise this vehicle would be ebay despite its short comings. In order to secure the best possible price he must provide a good write up describing the car as well as a good assortment of detail photos. As to arriving at a price, it is at best, and haphazard when the seller is trying to rely on sites like this for appraisal values based on fuzzy cell phone shots and vague descriptions better known as "garbage in, garbage out". The best appraisal values are always obtained by a qualified independent individual who can realistically advise the owner based on several scenarios or as an "as as is" basis after a first hand in person analysis of the vehicle thus, eliminating any misinformation. Of course, for a fee, yet well worth it. Hope the car get to stay here in the US. Good luck with the sale

The basis for my comment has nothing to do with the quality of restoration available in the U.S.

I seem to find on the Internet more pics of 2600's in Europe that are in fantastic shape than here in the US. I think the Netherlands and Germany are good examples of this. And I thnk recent auction results in Europe bear out the higher respect in the collector community afforded to the 2600 series than here in the US.

Yes there are "willing buyers" here, but the pricing doesn't seem to match what European collectors are paying.

Thanks Lionel, great input!

A collection of offers even from my first poor pictures does give me an idea, relatively, the value of the car... at least to these Alfa enthusiasts. I'm not looking to get an insurance estimate, just a starting point. This will help to determine a reserve value for an ebay auction.

Thanks again.

Hi
Can you advise which state you are in as I would like to make an offer on the car. I live in Australia and would need to arrange transport to a port with shipping to Australia.

Cheers Robert

Hi Robert.

I live in Connecticut, so NY would be the best port. Weather (and schedule) has been unkind for pulling the car out and snapping better photos... hopefully today or tomorrow.

Chris,

Obviously you want to get the most for this car - but rather than dangle carrots here on the ABB, you really need to take a lot of good pictures and use ebay - make sure to have a realistic reserve (or start at $1 and have no reserve - that really gets the bidding going).

You will get the best price, and the buyer will be protected.

The 2600 Spider is at the moment one of the most sought after Alfas in Europe from that era if we do not count the Zagato sports. I have seen some go rather quickly to very high prices - from 45 - 60.000 € They were all in very good shape. On the other hand I have seen one or two very rusty and unrestored 2000/2600 Spiders being offered for about 20 - 25.000 €. At this moment there are a 2000 Spider on Autoscout for 17.000€ (very bad condition) and two good cars for 40.000€ and 66.000€ . They are as said "only" 2L cars, the 6 cyl is hard to find here and mostly seen on auctions. It is difficult for me to judge the condition on your car based on the photos but it seems that many European collectors are happy to find an unrestored car so they know how and where to start. If the car is complete and only have minor surface rust I can't see it shouldn't get a good price here in Europe. My only wish is that it will be sold to somebody who wants to drive the car not hide it in a collection. It must be a car US Alfisti want to own too.

Thanks Lars,

That's very encouraging information!

I know I keep saying that I will post better pictures, and I will, to show the true condition of the car. Look for them in the next couple weeks (weekends). I can tell you that the car has quite a bit of rust damage, not just surface rust. The rockers are shot and the floor pan and trunk will need some attention. Although the body is straight as an arrow and all the seams have equal gaps; the car was never driven since it started rusting.
