Value of Borrani wheels?

105 guy here, completely ignorant of things 2600, I was wondering what a set of Borrani Wires including mounting hardware that were originally on a 1967 2600 Sprint would be worth, I haven't seen the wheels in person or have any other details, someone is trying to put a deal together I want to know what I am talking about! Also if I take the wheels off the car what is the stud pattern to replace them and is this a straightforward job ?
Thanks
Hans

The first thing you need to check is what type of Borrani wheels these are, i.e. what numbers are stamped on the wheel. These numbers will tell whether or not these are original wheels for a 2600 or some other wheels fitted on a 2600.

I'm somewhat suspicious when I see wire wheels on a 2600 Sprint because the wire wheel hubs increase the track by 1-1/2 inches at each wheel and the 2600 Sprint rear wheel wells might be too narrow to fit them. The original 165-400 wheels have zero offset and I was told 185x400 tires will rub inside the wheel wells. In this context, I can imagine that these wire wheels may have a different offset than the original wheels to compensate for the increase in track width from the wire wheel hubs.

Converting a car back from wire wheels to steel wheels should be fairly easy: The 165-400 wheels have a 5 x 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern. I suspect the bolts need to be changed out. Luckily, there are any Sprint parts cars available around the world, so obtaining these wheels and hardware should neither be very difficult nor very expensive. One detail to be aware of though: Series 1 cars have drum brakes on the rear axle whereas Series 2 cars have disk brakes all around.

I hope this helps. In case you find out what wheels you have we may be able to guide you further. If they are original wheels, there are probably several people on this forum who may want to buy them (not me, though).

Borrani wheels research

I looked into the Borrani's several years ago and found a dealer in NY with connection to the factory in Italy. The quote I got was around $8,000 for 4 new ones. Very pricey, unfortunately it stopped my searching. The used ones should be at least half that in good cond. I bought my 62 2600 Sprint with the purpose of Borrani's as the look is the best compliment to the body style.

as with many things, condition is going to be the predominant factor in determining value;

fixing and rechroming wire wheels is not an inexpensive process; polishing off rust and discoloration is not fun nor quick; buying a set in even "fair" condition for 1/2 the cost of new can wind up costing as much as a new set after factoring in costs of renewing them.

borrani wires

This particular car is a series 2 and lived all its life in Australia before moving to NZ not long ago,it has in all the time I have known the car had Borrani,s fitted....they were an optional extra here .We have also a series 1 car here with Borrani,s fitted as well. The mountings will be different between the 2 cars but as was pointed out earlier ,check the numbers.Further info can be gained by contacting Borrani in Italy or Australia, both have web sites.
ciao Tony

I'm not pursuing this, coupe to race and repair, berlina to refurbish but the car does look sweet on the borranis and teh brownish colour really suits it.

This particular 2600 Sprint is in my opinion the best looking one in existence. If there is a nicer one out there post photos.

Thumbs up short story: even nicer

"I hope my car is as nice as the above mentioned car. All original."

Hi schaapm, IMHO you car is even nicer on the original steel wheels. I love old Alfas on wire wheels, but they suit cars of the 50's and earlier a lot better.

Strictly personal preference admitedly; But I think that certain cars are stylistically more compatible with wires, like spider vs sprint. Up to late 60's wires seem appropriate.

Interesting that on 2 coupes the result can be so different: compare the MkII 3.8 Jaguar vs the Sprint. To my eye, they look great on the Jag, more so-so on the sprint.
