Thumbs up First Drive

Hi Just had my first drive of the 2600 Sprint over the weekend. Pretty good so far. Went about 10 miles - just to warm it up and check the levels. I think its going to be a good A-road car. The engine has plent of torque and the 5th gear is quite tall. It probably feels faster than it is. The only issue, I have (apart from the interior) is that I appear to have a leaking clutch slave cylinder. Are there replacements or rebuild kits available in the uk?

Going to try to drive it to work 35 miles round trip - across country...fingers crossed. Does anyone use a 2600 as a daily driver ?

Dave

Smile Smart as 'owt

Well, I've done 80 miles now. The car drives really well. I've taken the car to 70 mph...what's a reasonable top speed to drive these cars at without breaking them given they are 40 years old ?

These cars were designed as high-speed touring cars that can sustain 80-100 mph for hours (the oversized oil filter is proof of that). So, it the engine is warned up properly (driving it carefully at the beginning until the oil is warm after 15-20 minutes)

Assuming your car is lubricated on all 37 grease nipples and that steering, brakes, shocks and bushings are in good order, there is not much you can break. Keep an eye on the fuel filters and the carbs (especially with Solexes) to make sure that the mixture doesn't lean out (else you'll face the cost of a valve job).

Hello Davey!

I note that you make reference to parts in the UK.
As there are no details in your profile I will assume that you are resident here.
There are some very good leads on this site for all your needs (and wants.! )
A number of experts are based in the UK - Eric Harrison being our 'guru', but he has poor health and has recently handed over the reigns of running the 2000/2600 register to Andrew McInerney. Take a look at -

www.alfa2600.co.uk

Will you be taking your 2600 to the National Alfa Day on June 19th - (NOT 27th as on the above site as it hasn't been updated from last year)? Are you a member of the AROC UK club? Plenty of friendly help there too - although getting to be a few too many chavs in modified newer Alfas for my liking! It's is well worth it - last year I met a 'guru' from Australia who was very friendly and helpful.

How about posting some pictures?

Ken

Hi,
I know it is quite an old issue for you but I have the same problem. I have ordered the rebuild kit for the clutch slave cylinder and I am wondering if you have any specific advice to give me ?
Many thanks,
Lionel

Sorry I sold the car with this as a known fault - I regret getting rid of it. I think the rebuild kit should sort you out. There are other people who will sleeve the slave cylinder for £100-200.

Good luck
