Hi gmack,

If you're running SCCA Solo events, Snell Foundation "M" or "SA" helmets are required, and open face is OK unless you are running a car without a windshield. Bell and Simpson are the best, and most expensive, but there are others with Snell certification. The sticker inside the helmet lining should be state 1995, 2000, or 2005 certification (these are updated every five years, and anything older than 1995 will be rejected by the tech. inspector, or should be). There are many good sources, here's one: http://www.racerwholesale.com/catalog/ I recommend buying a 2000 or 2005 Snell certified helmet, and to verify it has the required sticker inside.
