If you havent driven the Q4 in snow then you have one great experience left to do in your life. The Q4 is a joy to drive in the dry, no under steer or power reactions in the steering that other 164 suffers from, but the real greatness of the car comes to live when it gets slippery and all the AWD electronics starts to work together.
I do not drive mine very much in the snow but sometimes just for fun i take it out early in the morning when it has snowed before they put gravel and salt on the roads and every time i get stunned over how the car performs.

This is how i describe the car: The 164 Q4 is a sports sedan built to transport four people with little luggage (small trunk) fast from A to B in any weather conditions.

I wish I could drive it on the autobahn.
But the car calls for it. The 5w-30 you used if it was vavoline racing is synthetic.
I would only use what it calls for, especially in the 4X4 system. Ask TJ when he last changed it. You may not need it for a long time since it is not a daily driver.
For the GL-5/4, you can use the AUDI/VW diff oil they use. Good stuff, easy to get here in USA and made in Germany. CH 7.1 is available here. I can get it easy.
I agree this 164 needs to have the correct fluids in it or it can be detrimental to the 4X4 system and the motor. 5w-30 is a bit low IMO. I would have done the 10W-40 for sure and maybe the 60 during the summer, 100% synthetic.
