how do I tell is a spark plug lead is failing?

Hi guys, I've got a recurring problem , where #4 plug appears to foul often. I clean the plug with a rag and a wire brush and it works again. I am blowing a little bit of smoke, when I boot it. But I don't think it's oiling up, seems to be more full of fuel... I'm using iridium plugs . I guess I want to know if a lead was breaking down would it fix it'self if I gave the plug a bit of a clean? and how do I test for a low lead....is there a certain resistance I could expect to see on the lead? any thoughts?

Use a meter and check sparkplug wire resistance from one end to the other end. It should be about 2500 ohms (2.5kΩ). Also be sure wire connection to sparkplug connector/resistor not corroded at rubber hat area.

Also you might want to open up distributor cap and check condition of contact terminal for #4 wire and for no cracks in cap around it.

Check condition/length of spring loaded carbon button in center of cap while you are looking.

Point of info: resistance of distributor rotor is 1.1kΩ

I had a strange problem with NO 4 as well and believe it or not there was a Mouse Nest in my air cleaner causing no air to get to that cylinder. I looked at everything and never bothered to look inside the air cleaner. When I did I was shocked. Now it runs fine.
