Added a Faded AR 945 Blue 164L to stash
Bought this car at local auto auction today: Untitled Page
Over the years I earned a lot of beer money working on it and I guess PO traded it in on something else. Not sure of background lately but it still runs good. I think PO must have moved as I couldn't raise him on his old email address that I had for him.
We will go pick it up Monday morning.
It has Konis, sport springs, poly bushings, larger sway bars, Goodrich braided brake hoses, slotted/cross drilled rotors, Ansa rear exhaust, S wheels and fairly new BFG T/A tires (I had them put on for PO). I did water pump and timing belt and window regulator, door handles, etc over the years and it has a fairly new steering rack so will make a nice parts car as body a bit rough with dented front fender and driver's door and cracked front bumper.
It is automatic but has some really quik steering. I think it is an S rack and suspension very aggressive and responsive.
Since I knew some of the history of the car I felt is was not a bad one to bid on.

Great find, Steve. Nothing like knowing the history of an auction car to set your mind at ease. If you ever think about getting rid of it let me know, it sounds like the perfect donor car for the #3 Florida car that has become my parts car.
Your steering comments bring up a question: Recently I acquired a '92L 5 Speed. I was quite surprised to find that the steering is very light an precise - much more so than the automatics that I have. Is that normal?

Does rack have a centering spring or do the automatics have centering springs?
Alignment and tire width can affect steering too.

Drove ole Blue home today
Well, my son, grandson and I went and rescued Ole Blue from auction yard this afternoon. Had a spirted but hot (no a/c) drive home. Blue performs well on highway.
Turns out PO I knew had only put about 2000 miles on it since I changed oil, etc., on it in May 2006. My box top with info on it from filter box still in glove box. I will have to see if I can find my spread sheet on what all I did back then.
I know I did the water pump, tensioner and timing belt back then. Lots of other stuff too like headlight, brake cable, some brake calipers I just don't remember all that I did now.
Turns out owner's manual and original window sticker in glove box.
Title is titled now as local Freedom Ford dealer was last owner so must have been taken in as a trade.
Car now has broken inner driver's and right rear passenger's door handles.
S wheels have same BFG T/A tires as my car so I will save some money by not having to get tires for my car as two are worn out on it. I feel a parts swap coming up.
On a side note:
My son took his 92L (I charged a/c last week) back home but left me his 91S as a/c blower motor finally gave him it's last squeel yesterday I quess. He will be back maybe this weekend to work on it. My neighbor commented as he walked by another father-son car swap must be going on. He is used to us playing musical cars.

Ain't that the truth! Today the daughter and I are going to have a gas filler door changing ceremony. We probably will remove the Metallic Gray one I put on old blue for PO and give her car a racer's look with door "different shade of pale" than rest of car.
Aren't spare parts great even if still attached?
Anybody had any luck using JB weld to repair gas filler door hinge?

LOL - isn't it crazy how whole cars are now swapped for probably the price of a small part (e.g. a turn signal lens) when you first bought your Originale. Did you ever think it would end up like this? Recently I saw a rough 164 sell online for less than the cost of a tank of petrol for it. Your latest would be more expensive though as it actually looks quite nice. I'd be fixing it - I like the interior!

I saw this stuff named Q-Bond demonstrated the other day.
McCormick Tools :: adhesives :: Q-BOND QUICK BONDING ADHESIVE SYSTEM (SMALL QB2)
It's basically a black powder that reacts exothermically with the 'super-glue'-like adhesive dropped onto it. You put some powder around the area to repair, then a couple of drops of the adhesive. The adhesive soaks in and sets within 30 seconds or so. It is amazingly, and I mean amazingly, strong. It was used to repair a small stick of ABS and I couldn't break it - or at least, when I did break it, it broke in a different place to the repair.
I didn't buy the Q-Bond on the spot because it cost a significant amount of money (about US$40) and the shop has since sold out. I see it's available cheaper in England at the link I posted. I think for Alfa-plastic repairs (particularly interior plastics) it would be brilliant. Better than epoxy and solves the problems of super-glue (gap filling, adhesion) as well.

I like your new car very much. I wonder why he didn't just call you up and offer to sell it to you instead of trading it in? I would love to find some 164s around here that need some wrenching on, but I'm the only one running around in one! Almost never see another, which is kind of cool actually. )

They are camel color and leather pretty hard but in fairly good shape I think. really didn't inspect that closely yet.

Probably wouldn't have sold it for the price I paid considering how much he paid me to fix it.
