A small update, all of the servo motors are ok so now i am left with the problem of the compressor engaging and disengaging intermittently. As per Steve's suggestions this could be either the trinary switch or the frost switch. How can i test these and can the frost switch be bypassed, or will it harm the system?
I had to dismantle the aircondition pipework to get the evaporator box out, what is the procedure when refilling with gas?
Thanks for all your help.

That heater core does look suspect of either pending failure or slow leaker. that being said I let one similair to that go today in my son's 164S. Fingers crossed that I did not do a stupid thing. I changed out his bad blower motor that had worn out brushes and squeeling bearings that had blown 40A fuse.
