Pedal Problems.

After an extended absence, Isabella (The LS) is back among the living.
However, I have some pedal problems.

1. The brake seems under boosted. I do not sense a change in idle when applying the brake, so I don't think there is an air leak. The MC was replaced last spring and the system bled thoroughly. I had the sticking-rear-caliper issue, so I rebuilt them. Booster, maybe?

2. There is more "take-up" in the clutch than there should be. I replaced the disc, pressure plate, clutch MC, and rebuilt the slave cylinder about 2 years ago. I get 1/2" of travel at the lever. I'm wondering if I could shorten the clutch master cylinder plunger?

Booster check valve or banjo fitting line on intake clogged from something when you had intake off?

You got that useless damper in clutch hose lines under air cleaner box?

Could be the check valve, as there does not seem to be an air leak. I'll pull it off and test.

I removed the damper way back when...

Just removed the clutch hose (Kudos, DiFatta).
The damper was removed way back, so the hose goes directly from the hard line, emerging from the firewall, to the slave cylinder.

Problem: The hard line end of the new hose is too short. The result is that when fed through the bracket and the keeper nut is installed, there are not enough threads protruding to attach the hard line. If the hose and the hardline are joined below the bracket, they mate correctly.

I'm thinking of leaving it that way.

Update.

Bled the clutch (Power Bleeder). and the pedal feels much better. Alot less "tired" or "spongy". Looks like there is plenty of travel on the clutch lever, as well.

But wait....ther's more! The end of the hose that couples to the hard line leaks. I believe that the male end of the new hose is just too short. It screwed on perfectly, however I can see leakage from around the threads. No matter how much I tighten the coupling. The end of the old hose is longer and therefore, I think can be fully seated.

Has amyone seen this before? Might it be possible to get a generic equivalent of the hose? Maybe have one made?

Old vs. New Clutch Hose

Sorry for the blurry pics.
Here are the two hoses; the new one on the left and the original on the right. In addition to the threaded part being too short, the end of the coupling of the old hose has a stepped profile, while the new hose is more conical.

This explains why I cannot get a good seal with the new hose.

Looks like they sent you wrong 60608471 hose. You need 60608470 for correct long threaded end with tapered end to hook to rigid line and directly to slave without damper in between. The 471 hose goes from damper to slave on later 164 models with damper not from rigid line to damper or directly to slave on like earlier 164 models.

Note item 13 and 14 same hose 470 for with and with out damper set up.

They sent me 60608470 which they list as "C/HOSE8438".
I think I need 60608471, described as "CL/HOSE164".

At this point it may pay to call and have them measure the end. The correct one is one inch and stepped. The incorrect one is 5/8" and conical.

I think I have another "correct" hose from them I will try to see what package says. I am pretty sure it is listed on package as for a 164 TS so end that goes into slave a little bit longer than original V6 hose but worked fine on my 164B.

Getting correct parts exactly as factory installed originals are getting harder to find. That pesky only 10 year after production law to supply parts has come into play for our beloved 164 models.

8438 means it is after market.

8438 is the clutch hose number and relates to oe number:
60511538 ss 60608470
Which is the hose from the hard line into the damper (if you had one)
also 60557031 ss 60622815

Part you need is 60608471 ss 71736944 (8439 for second segment)

Jason,
Those are the exact dimensions of my old (correct-fitting) hose. I only hope they have 60608471 in stock.
