WTB Tow Bar - Australia

I'm looking for a tow bar in Australia for a 90-91 164. Anyone got any leads. Many thanks in advance.

Yep. If you want a new one, you've got to have them fully custom made now, no one in Australia sells them. Used is a case of following ebay or similar like a hawk & buying a car with one fitted... then remove & onsell car.

Custom made should set you back in the vicinity of $6-800 plus engineering certificate if required from what i've found through my investigations.

I have a picture of one made by Witter in the UK, but their bolt-on flange isn't legal here, so will need modifying to suit our market. No dimensions, but bolt hole locations are listed in the owner's handbook.

The bar's specified maximum towing capacity is listed at 1250kgs, with a 50kg nose weight. At that weight, you'll more than likely pull the bolts through the boot floor (so it obviously isn't recommended).

Thanks evilgidget. Looks like I'll have to get the welder out and speak to my friendly certified practicing engineer.

Just be aware that the dimensions given in the owners manual aren't all correct.
