Power seat movement question

My drivers seat up & down movement isnt working, the switch does activate the motor in either direction but the seat doesnt move. i see a flex type action on the switch housing and hear the motor try and move the seat. back & forth and the tilt work fine. Any thoughts ?

Soon you will forgo the gentle and civilized rubber mallet for the nearest long screwdriver handle or ratchet extension....finally one of us.

When I got my 164, I marvelled at the simplicity of this little trick.

However, the passenger's seat gets little use, and despite the fact that I left it in the middle of its movement range, the forwards-backwards and height motors keep doing the same thing, that is, sticking and not working. A tap gets them going, then they don't work a month or two later.

Is it possible/practical to take the motors apart and perform a long-term fix?

-Alex

I just took an old driver seat apart today to scavenge the parts, the leather was beyond repair. It is a very tedious process working on these seats which are very well made. I would NOT want to have to put one BACK together. These things are not like taking a Volvo 240 seat apart, way more complicated. I did find a tag at the top of the seat frame that said Keiper Recaro, so confirmed that they are made by Recaro. Lower back support made by an Austrian firm and seat heater pads made in Sweden. Also found the wires to the backrest seat heater where completely severed and the reason for the lose of seat heating. The elements still had continuity. It would take a lot of patience to swap out motors I'm afraid, but not impossible I guess. I never had problems with the motors in any of my seats, but read about it here often. Mine did have the blue box of relays in it though, that is supposed to eliminate the problem. Anyone need any seat parts?

I need the fore and aft (front to back) movement cross shaft and circlips that connects motor shaft to outer rail gear set for a spare fabric seat I have. Rear shaft!

Steve, looking at the motors and parts on the floor, I don't remember which shaft that is. There are two main shafts one longer than the other by about 1.5 inches. Which one is the one you need? I have the circlips as well, you know how many you need? You need any of the gears, those all seem to be the same.

The shorter shaft is the forward and aft movement shaft. It has two circlips. May need one gear set.

OK, I'll send it out to you. Let me know if you are missing anything else when you actually get in there to fix it.
