rich smelling exhaust

Hey Guys,
I just changed out the Golden Lodge 2HL plugs that were in my 164S for some NGKs. The Lodges were totally worn out. The car has 137,000 on it and it seems that these have been in there a long time.
However, when I replace the plugs the first start up was immediate with no cranking. After running them for a couple of days the exhaust now seems to smell like it is running rich and it needs to crank for a couple of secs to start. I am thinking that it might be O2 sensor, because the old plugs were pretty badly fouled and worn. Might there be that same build-up on the O2?

I have searched for related threads and have seen a lot of reference to trouble codes. Is there a code reader that I don't have? I thought that only OBDII cars had codes.

Ideas?

The big button on the left side just behind the steering wheel is used to get codes. With the ignition on, but with car not running, hold button in for approximately 2-3 seconds. Check engine light will come on and flash a four digit code to you. I don't have the list right now but I do know that code 4444 is no problems. I just switched computers so I will try to find the file and forward it to you.
