Non-OEM engine parts?

Hi,

about to change the cambelt on my 24v 164 and the combined cost of the parts (bearings and belt) from Alfa is coming in at twice that of non-oem suppliers.

Has anyone had any good/bad experiences with oem suppliers and if so which ones?

Thanks,

Richard

for the belt you want a Gates or Dayco, for the other parts well trusted brands at least in Europe are SKF, FAG, Timken and Ina, i presume there all available in the states

All the cambelt items have to be OEM, no ones else makes them.
I prefer Gates Powergrip (OEM) or Dayco belts though.
I prefer OEM, GUTTMAM GmbH, Saleri Waterpumps, in order.
Bearings all OEM, made by SKF France or Italy.
Same with serpentine belt system.
You can possible use Newer OEM idler pulleys made of plastic or replace bearings with SKF, Belt can be whatever, OEM is #1, Dayco or Gates is fine.
Serp tensioner bearing is SKF and only OEM, Shock is OEM but is made by INA ( you can pick that up in an INA box).

Personally, I prefer OEM but there are a lot of good after-market vendors for other parts like rubber, ball joints, and so forth.
I have no issues with any of them. I think your fairly safe with a after-market. I always offer both to my customers, alfa is not much more in price really.
