Auto tranny 164LS warning light.

I need advice here, please. I had to repair a broken wire connector to the top of the tranny (1994 Super auto), and that worked fine. Then the auto warning light started to flash on and off and the tranny cooling fan came on! Yet the box is working perfectly, with smooth shifts and proper kick-down, etc, so I do not know where to go from here. I checked the repaired wire and the circular plug connection to the top cover at the front of the tranny cover.
The hand book says that if the light flashes it it either overheating (which it is not) or there is a tranny fault. In addition the 'ice-sport-auto' indicators will not appear, and they are not appearing. The book says that the box will stay in the gear it was in when the fault occured. However, it is working perfectly. I pulled the relay for the tranny fan to stop it running, but the light keeps flashing.
Has anyone got any idea what is going on, or has someone had this before? I also disconnected the battery for 30 minutes and reconnected to see it that would reset the tranny computor, but it did not stop the flashing light.

All ideas gratefully received.

Alex.

PS. This is a RHD Super in New Zealand.

For those with a 4HP18E auto tranny, I did a google search, and discovered that the temperature sensor on these trannys is a thermistor type placed inside the solenoid hydraulic valve body inside the box itself. It interfaces with the tranny ECU. This means that the fan is switched on internally by the ECU and does not need the wire connection to the fluid thermoswitch bolted to the front of the box. My 164 has this wire hanging loose under the air cleaner box, and I was trying to find a connection point for it. Presumably it was still there as part of the earlier non-electronic box loom.

However, I still do not know why my tranny warning light is flashing on and off even though the box is working fine.http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/imag...s/confused.gif

Still waiting for any clues from someone.

Alex.

Problem solved. There was still a bad connection in the multipin connecting plug on the top tranny cover. All fixed now and all OK. It seems that this plug is a weak point in the electronic g/box.
