24v overheat after non-use

My 1995 24v has been parked up unused for the winter months, on street, and the electric radiator fan is now no longer getting any power; on either low or high speed temperature levels. Anyone any idea what/where the problem might be? The physical cooling system is all fine as the radiator and all associated pipes get well hot, just the fan doesn't cut in even 15+ degrees C above where it used to.

have you checked the thermal trip switch at the bottom of the radiator? (bottom right hand corner.) the switch is a negative trigger, so you should check the earths (ground). also check if there is power to the relay, you could have blown a fuse.

Thanks for that. Haven't check the temp sensor yet as aren't sure what wire should give what reading but the fuse for the fan relay under the dash is fine - not sure where any other fuses might be though.

Do you guys follow our posts? First off check aluminum 40A fuse bar for cooling fan motor on false firewall for 12v in and 12v out. It is probably cracked.

Does cooling fan blade rotate freely?

Thanks Steve.

So many posts can be hard to find the right ones. Fan does rotate freely - just had zero power to it when checked with multimeter. 40a fuse looked ok but will test it later today for power - should the engine be at fan cut in temperature for there to be power to it from the relay?

Cheers,

Richard

Power 12v is always to fan motor via 40A fuse and red wire to motor but brown wire from motor to high speed relay and low speed resistor gets grounded by either relay when radiator switch grounds relays according to radiator temp or a/c freon pressure.

Here is wiring diagram for 164 Euro Super for cooling fan. Same as USA version it appears.

But second picture is from 1996 wiring manual so maybe your car has 50A fuse set up? Haven't had time to see where that one is located. It maybe same place on false firewall.

Smile

As always Steve, you are a STAR! Mine is a 1995 and sure it has the 40A fuse so this should let me resolve the issue.
Much appreciated!

Richard
