Head Gasket O-ring seals

My 3.0V6 service manual says to quote:

"Position rubber pads sealing the oil passages (two for each row of cylinders)."

What are they referring to? The drawing shows what looks like two Orings that are placed in the oil passage that sticks out from the rest and no others. The head gasket package likewise has an Oring in that position and no others. I see no reference to Orings or pads in either IAP or Centerline. Finally, I did not see anything other the one Oring in the gasket I removed.

Thanks,

One o-ring 60513359 goes in groove on each oil passage dowel pin sticking up out of block - one for front head and one for rear head. One oring should come with each head gasket and the new style head gasket should have molded in ribbed rubber ring that oil dowel stick through. So that is the new way to double seal each dowel pin instead of old way of two orings per cylinder head.

My head gasket does have, as you have described, the O-ring molded in to it. Ahhh, I think I just got it. I was thinking it was saying there were two O-rings between each cylinder for a total of 12 O-rings.

Thanks for the clarification! The head goes on tomorrow.

Not surprising the old "bikini" gasket needed a revision, eh? Sounds like it may have been a little skimpy, eh?
