Alternator V-belt

Hello again.

I managed to shred an alternator belt (old v-belt style) on the '92 164 (manual) this afternoon. Drove home under battery power and took the old '89 out for a drive to pick up a new belt.

The old belt actually disintegrated totally so it was impossible to tell the exact length it should have been.

When the guys at the local spare parts store (Bursons) looked in their system it stated a Dayco belt - 11A0750 (which I take to be 11mm cross section, 750mm length) should fit.

Got the belt home and it was far too long. Took it back for a swap and thought the next size down might suit (725mm). Anyway, 725 is also far too long.

Before I go back for a third time, does anyone know the specs on the belt?

Cheers,
Stuart in Oz.

G'Day Stu,

Not really the answer but the only 2 sources I can come up with say 10A0750.

One was by looking up the Alfa number in eper (60513081), searching the web came up with one site which cross referenced it with 10A0750 (others just offered to sell you one).

And this is from the Bosch application book.

Ahhh, thanks for that! Not sure what is going on here but a 750 is far too long for the car. Hmmmmmm!

Well, the nasty answer is to take the belt off the '89 and see if it fits on the '92 and if there's any numbers on it.

Hehe, true. I was trying to avoid this because there is only room for one car in the garage at once so I'd have to do it in the street.

Anyway, will try and swap it for a 700mm belt tomorrow.

If your V-belt 164 has a/c belt it should be close to the K273/275 size of serpentine belt models. I would suspect/expect the 750 size v-belt to be for a non-a/c model.

Let us know what size is correct fit please.

USA models use v-belt for power steering 15310 size not to wide and not to narrow but I have never seen a 164 v-belt set up for alternator or water pump so no real way for me to compare.

Also here is belt sizes for 75 and they are v-belts.

The belt for non A/C model is quoted (from Bosch) below as 13A975, but it might be wrong too.

You're lucky, I can only get the nose of the 164 in my garage and that's when there's no 75 up on stands in there as there is now.

5050273 belt equals 5KP0690 metric

Since 164 DAYCO 5050273 serpentine alternator belt equals a 5KP0690 mm belt, the 164 w/AC alternator v-belt maybe close to 690 mm size.

Thanks Steve. I was going to go for a 700mm but thinking about the slack the 725mm gave felt that even it might still be too big. I'll try your suggestion!

Thanks for reminding me! The belt I used that seemed to be the perfect length was a Dayco 11A0685 - 685mm in length. Couldn't get a 690 so went the next step down and it worked perfectly.

Glad to see my math wasn't to far off!

a piece of wire (speaker or electrical), zip ties, or string will make that job ALOT easyer next time...wrap it around the pulleys and cut where the 2 ends meet and take it with you ..in the case of string tie it or cut it..zip ties just string em together and sinch em down

G'Day Stu,

Just to add a little more confusion to this thread, the belt on my alternator at the moment is an 11A0750
