Breather Hose
I was replacing plugs and wires on the 164 when I had an ooops. I was changing the rear passenger side plug I believe #1 cylinder when I moved the hose from the valve cover to the oil collection canister breather and of course the hose broke. It looks like its different sizes at both ends, is this correct? Do I need to get a special hose or is it a standard size? Is there a simple fix for this?

It is a specialy formed hose and I am not sure there is anything you can fine that will fit and bend like that. If broken at the bottom where the clamp is you can jimmy it until you get a new one with electrical tape once the thing is cleaned well. I know it sounds very shoddy but it can work as a temp fix. Not a crucial Item to keep the car running but I would not go too long with it like that.
I have them if you need one.

It is very common for this hose to get extremely hard as well as the brake booster vacuum hose.

I had to replace that breather hose on mine as well for the same reason. The brake booster hose is a hard plastic line and will last the life of the car if left unmolested.

I replaced my breather hose with a SS 90-degree bent pipe (5/8"?); little short clips of hose hold it at either end. I believe the pipe was originally used as an EGR pipe on a late 80's Nissan of some sort. Just cruise the junkyard and check under the hood of Nissans and possibly other Asian makes - I've seen several renditions of these pipes over the years.

The only problem with that is, if you have ever taken your intake plenum off, it (the hose)surely has developed cracks and splits. It is much better replaced with the appropriate size silicon hose to improve flexibility and eliminate leaks.

This is an aside, but the brake booster line, fairly easily, pulls out of the power brake booster grommet at the check valve and remains attached to the intake at the other end. Never try to remove the hard plastic line from the intake, you will damage it for sure, it is not made to come off there, ever. The hard line is used, because it provides vacuum to the brake booster, you don't want that collapsing under vacuum like a hose might. If you have to fix the line at the intake with a hose splice, keep the splice as short as possible for the reason stated above. Some cars do use hose, but it is always stout hose, at least. I have removed the intake many times and the hard line to the booster remains as original.

It actually does not pull off very easily after several thousands of miles and heat cycles. Perhaps yours isn't original...In many cases, it has to be cut off to be removed from either end as I have had to do with more than one 164. I have never heard of a thick-wall silicon hose collapse, but perhaps a very thin-walled rubber hose might. This makes removal and installation of the intake plenum a walk in the park.
