Would have been a good idea except for the bad weather day: Retrieving the infamous $177.50 ebay Alfa 164

IDK, $1,900 for a running car that needs a $30 belt and a fourth's cars worth of parts doesn't sound that bad to me. One just sold around here with the same miles and a lot more troubles for $1,600 and no extra parts. But being the good capitalist that I am I know it's worth whatever the market will bare. Anyone care to make an offer? Opening bid is $500 - PM me.

And BTW, give me a little credit for talking to the PO about selling the car if I can't haul it. Remember, I accepted his price - I didn't "Alfa" him down. They're my cars and I think I have the right sell, them drive them, or paint them orange and sell fruit out of them if I care to! Rude?? I guess I'm just too much the capitalist... Man you guys are as bad sa us 105 guys

I might just take my chances and drive it up with the other two. Worst case it dies and I hop in one of the other cars and pay to haul it home. I hate the thought of wrecking a motor but my options are limited and with an extra motor in the mix it's not like I'd be out much. Heck if the car's only worth $500 a motor couldn't be more than $75, right?

Let's see $250 plus $1650 for transport... $1,900!

Actually that's just another reason for hating you west coast guys - the best weather, the best girls, the best cars...

Ok, so this is just one more reason I really like owning Alfa's: On the strength of few emails and a phone conversation, the PO offered to replace the T-belt and water pump for me, get the wheels balanced and box and palletize the spares so that I can ship them common carrier! That's a heck of a lot of work to do for a stranger (I suspect if he knew me it would have been another story...). And it really helps me put this whole adventure together.

So the family (yes I even had the guts to admit what I had up my sleeve to my wife!) flies down at the end of the month and has mini vacation before the Alfa caravan begins it trek up north. Perhaps I should post my itinerary with check points along the way. I can just see the gathered crowds straining to get a glimpse of the three Alfa slipping through the rarefied atmosphere of the fast lane...

You 164 guys aren't bad after all!

Fetta, I never doubted it. But autos are too boring to me, a nice drivers car like a 164 has to be a arm shaker.

You'll learn the 3-2 slap shift real quick. Great way to get the revs up without having to hit passing gear and waiting for tranny to downshift.

I keep lever in 3 around town so I can slap to 2 right now. Still like my 5-speed more overall but in heavy traffic A/T nice option when my daughter not driving it.

Hey my next 164 will probably be a 164LS auto. I have four five speed cars and my 63 Impala is a auto but is not a daily driver and when you've driven a stick for YEARS having an auto for s&g socal traffic is a god send.
