What a great ending to a long and interrupted story! Glad to hear it.

The steering fluid hoses on these cars are suspect whether or not they may get cut/chafed accidentally. The high pressure hose on my 94LS blew out big time at about 65,000 miles. Not an uncommon occurrence I guess. They are pretty much lousy quality material.

My recommendation is to replace that high pressure hose with a locally made high quality Aeroquip aircraft type hose to avoid being forced to steer without power somewhere away from home. If you do lose the fluid, just cut the drive belt to the pump to avoid harming it so that you can get home. Not bad on the highway but a muscle building ***** in town. Drove from Portland to Seattle this way with the LS.

Both my 91S and the 94LS have these better hoses, as well as our 89 Milano.

Thanks gentlemen.

Del, were you thinking of the 12valve engine when you suggested cutting the belt? Would cutting the serpentine belt on the V24 disconnect the alternator too?
Car running well, a nervous day 1, especially since it was Friday the 13th

Had the car aligned at Goodyear Tire / Gemini shop.
The alignment machine was pretty amazing. The computer even had photo's of the underside of the LS. I gave the tech the TSB about alignment changes from the manual. When all was said and done, the computer read out was green [within spec. for everything but Castor which was off by 2/10th of a point.
Castor Right Front was 0.9 and it should be 1.1
Could be a ball joint or I need a new shocks.
Another day with new tires on the beast and hopefully everything will be within spec.

And interestingly enough (or not), my wife's car is now developing a thirst for power steering fluid. Of course, I think it's spec'd as Dexron/Mercon instead of "power steering fluid." Does anyone here care to venture a statement about the difference and the hazard level of mixing them as my very literally oriented daughter is wont to do? When the P.S. reservoir is empty, she's bought "power steering fluid" and used it from failing to remember to use the ATF bottle in the trunk.

Oh, Dad really! May not be a problem even though there are different kinds.

Now the leak maybe a problem.
