Parts heading my way and the nearly unobtainable submersible fuel hose in my hand from O'Reilly's.

Good ole Gates Belts and Hoses! I was a DM for them for a while and they have a good bit of obscure pieces, boss was a jerk but the company was cool.

I tried the O=ring trick, one thing I would tell people to use are ones that are gas-proof, AC o-rings can do this. I tried standard o-rings and when I went back to redo the job the regular rubber o-rings were melted from the fuel. Maybe its our california gas that does it

Good Find Chazzy, now be sure to reuse those special hose clamps holding old hose on tank cover to get a good tight fit.

I used the metal stato-seal washers with molded neoprene rubber this time. They should hold up OK. Got them from Home Depot.

Not a completely wasted endeavor, this PM. Had a broken mounting strap tab on the basket and the pad was at the bottom of the tank and not attached to the basket. Short hose was original cloth covered one and was fine but it got replaced anyway. Not too much junk in the basket but it got cleaned out as well. One more thing soon to check off the list. O, and the basket filter just pops out of the basket bowl, took me a little while to figure that out, kept trying to find a way to get to the screws. Yes, and I never get rid of the original Oetinger style hose clamps whenever working on this car! Everyone should obtain the tool to put those back on.

Feeling like the car runs even better, maybe that short hose did have a slight leakdown issue. Not a fun task but done now.

After driving the car for several more days, I thought I would add that my car starts much better. I used to have to jab the gas pedal a bit when I went to start the car or it would require a second try to start it. It starts without having to do this anymore! SWEET! I definitely had a leakdown issue even with no visible split in the hose, I even disected the old short hose with a razor blade and no splitsbut tiny cracks and generally hardened rubber, so I can see how it (apparently) was not sealing well.

For what? Do you have a USA steel tank with bolts holding pump tank cover and gauge sender or Euro plastic tank with lock rings?

sorry Steve i meant for the sender and pump. but it is a euro tank
Anyway on inspection it is the 90 degree elbows that have cracked. somebody elsewhere has suggested running a soldering iron over them. what do you make of that?
as i really do not want to drop the tank if it can be avoided

What? I don't think so! Might be a bit dangerous.
Are you talking about one of three rubber elbows in 60563155 vent line assembly that hook to top of tank in three different places and hidden when tank installed?
Or are you talking about fuel pressure line 60605732 and return line 60605733 "plastic" elbows going into fuel pump tank cover?
