Now its all light, and it takes little more rotation to turn the wheel. The only bad things about the rack is, the mount bushings are bad and the driver side boot is bad.

You better check those mount bushings you say are bad if rack moving in mounts that will give you light feel and more movement of wheel.

164 rack boots, TRE; mount

Boot kit for rack with oval boot 9943835 all parts marked A in picture

Check ball sockets for play inner tie rod ends (under boots) 9945565 L/H (driver's side), R/H 9945566 (hard to find) passenger side. You can use 9945565 both sides but may need spacer on passenger side.

Outer TRE 60511622 (2)

Rubber mount driver's side 82388352 ITEM 7 in second picture.

If passsenger side worn out you need to drill mounting clamp apart and make need mount from some rubber/neoprene flat stock/split piece of hose, etc.

If hoses are leaking or chaffed you need to replace them too. See my post on return or supply steering hoses.
Power Steering Leak
If pressure hoses you will need to have them made or buy new if possible.

Thanks steve, looking at all those parts and their prices, do you think its better to get a reman rack for around the same amount from Jorgenauto and get new TREs rather than working on this rack?

It maybe a better call. Which car are you working on 12v or 24v? Just besure they send you a 5-sp not AT rack so you don't lose right turning radius.

Its 12v which I use as daily driver, 24v has no problems and runs great [!!knock on wood!!] , expect less gas mileage than 12v (DUH!).

What are your powersteering flexible pipe lines like ?? Since if they are old they start breaking down and you start getting bits of rubber floating round in your powersteering system, this starts clagging up the system especially all those small pipes to the powersteering rack.

Not sure if there is a specific one but it goes like this.

Drain the fluid, undo all lines.
Remove driver side wheel and arch plastic shield.

Drop subframe to reach rear bolts, I use a shorty socket wrench and long 13mm socket to get to the front along with a ratchet 13mm wrench, easy.
Remove clamps, passenger side is clamped together so you need to chisel it off from the bottom bracket...usually. Not always the case if the rack has been done before.
Remove tie rod ends from hub.

R&R through driver side wheel wheel.

I think you can figure out any small details I may have left out.

Check inner tie rods as well.

You should be able to reuse them as is but if they leak you can anneal them with a propane torch to soften them up again or try Di Fatta Brothers - Alfa Romeo and Fiat Parts Sales and Service , etc., BB vendors or local parts store.
