ABS light on

Hello -

I just got delivery of my spanking new (to me) 1991 164S ... it's everything that my friend Milano Man told me about. The only hiccup after I took out it for my first spin is that the abs light on the instrument panel is always lit. I talked to my seller and my friend who inspected the vehicle before I had it shipped ... it was fine. I guess something happened when it was shipped ... I had wheel straps - maybe that disconnected the wiring around the brakes.

Would greatly appreciate feedback.

BTW - I'm thinking of taking the alfa checked out and maintained by Richard at Stephen's alfa corp at Pompano Beach ... anyone knows about him ... he told me that he is a 40 year alfa mechanic.

Thanks.

What did you find? I would be suspect of a damaged/disconnected ABS sensor wire at one of the front wheels if you had strap cage over front wheels when towing on tow dolly.

I think Richard is a long time Alfa mech as his says. I used to converse with his place by email years ago when I lived in JAX but never had any work done by him.

I'll need to check ... what am I exactly looking for? What does the sensor look like? And how do I know it's damaged?

Thanks for your feedback

There are two shiny black coax looking wires going to ABS sensors at each wheel hub below where outer tie rod ends attach to front spindles below front brake calipers.

These sensors point at serrations on each front axle. Coax cables are routed along with brake hoses back underneath inner fender liners and attach to connectors under the hood along inner fenders.

These type of cables also run from electronic struts on S models and look similiar to ones going to air bag sensors mounted under hood so do not confuse air bag or strut ones for the ABS ones.

I doubt you tied down rear wheels but same type cables for struts and ABS at rear too.
