Fueltank:steel or plastic?

So far I noticed on the few "USA 164's"(as we call them overhere) I worked on that they all have a steel tank.All the others, for the european market, have plastic tanks.
Any idea why?Plastic tanks won't rust and in the case of an accident, the plastic tank will bend before breaking.
Do all the north american 164 have steel tanks or was I just "lucky" to meet some?

All USA models that I have seen have steel tanks.

Not necessarily true. Steel is most likely to bend and dent. Plastic will most likely shatter.
