drove both in warm san diego

its about 78 here and super, super warm in the sun!
BUT--- tomorrow, I head to New York where its ---uhhhh--pretty cold
And being a SoCal I have ZERO warm clothes

So my fun today will be doubly paid tomorrow /tues/wed

If it snows I am screwed-- I have no pairs of weather shoes-- only slip on loafers

Pray for me!

Our forecast here well south off NYC is for 12F in the morning and I have warm clothes but that is still to darn cold for me. It was 22F this morning and my 164B's P/S was a groaner and sluggish this morning.

IAROC (Israeli Alfa Romeo Owners Club) had a fun drive up north to visit the northern branch of the club this past Friday.
Most shots are not 164 related as they were taken from within my 164 Super (the only 164 on this trip) but it a joy to watch nonetheless.

Enjoy...

Ralph.

Drove the '94 to pick up the youngest this evening.

Still smelling anti-freeze. Seems worse immediately after the climate control comes on. Once the heat is directed away from the wind screen and down to the floor, it's not as pervasive.

You might want to fix that before you leak test your engine ECU which is located just under heater core heater box.

I suspect you have a hairline crack in hose side side tank of heater core. It leaks more after engine shut off and coolant pressure rises before system cools off so coolant leaks out and drains into foam padding in bottom of blower motor hoiusing.

We had this issue with daughter's 164B. New heater core and dry blower motor box later, she is much happier about the non-smell of coolant and non-mist on windshield.

I have been without the LS for almost 3 weeks. It has been in the shop but I am to pick it up this weekend. A new serpentine belt and minor fixes should have it running in tip top shape. Next repair will be a replacement of the brake booster, which squeel's real bad when I apply the brakes. This will be expensive and have been putting it off for several years. Hopefully this spring I will get it taken care of.

Have a great weekend everybody,

Jeff

Our 164 is back on the road with working airconditioning at last. After my brother tested all the electrical connections and wiring to find out why the compressor was getting no power, we discovered that a plug on the bottom right of the fuse box had come out, probably when we were fixing the blower connection. With all the jumble of wires back there we missed it. Isn't that always how it goes? You go to a lot of trouble, only to find it was something simple in the end. Oh well, now we know intimately how the system is wired. My wife enjoyed driving the car today and staying cool. It went well, except that she had to call roadside assistance to replace the battery which turned out to be older than I thought.

.....still daily enjoying the work commute in Bella our original 164 purchased "way back" in 2006.

The usual issues are coming up for attention sometime in between household painting and Jenny Alfa rebuild.

IE: Bella center muffler is blowing noisily and I am again trying to trace a battery drain problem. Several fuses are out right now in attempt to isolate whatever is the cause.

I think I should have at least two center mufflers available on site!

Nevertheless my run up and down I95/I295 is one of the daily highlights....

The security fellow at work wants my Alfa.

Jeff-nice to see that you're keeping maintenance to a high level. The brake booster issue gave me a chuckle...some things are best used up. You need to come up for a spring event in KC or fall in Eureka Springs. I'm going to the KC Spring Fling as are several from OK. Bernie will be coming up from TX for sure. That guy is a touring machine.

oz3litre-You need to remind your wife that simply driving an Alfa makes her cool.

She knows that and enjoys driving it. She likes the way Alfas feel on the road.

I am driving my 164B daily now and managed to fit in a drive of my 164L as it has been hiding out in the garage being the black beauty that it is.

Drove B model over to my buds yesterday to help him on his Maser Bora but I forgot to take pictures this time. We were able to get both cooling fans working by changing semi-bad and bad switches in radiator. Slowly he is getting it together. He got it back from body shop with new red paint. It idles a bit fast and carbs spit at idle so need some fine tuning.

I thing my clutch in the B is in it's last half life now as a hard charging power shift into 2nd gear seems to be a mush-o-matic and car does not have a clutch hose damper installed.

I may just have to pull engine or tranny yet. I think I have about 100k plus on that clutch I installed way back in 2001 when I did tranny input bearing repair.

Nothing last forever does it!

Drove it to church and biscuits afterward.

Got home and I now am seeing some coolant on the driver's side floorboard. Therefore, Isabella is now out of the rotation. The '88 is also down, waiting on a starter (should be here Tuesday).

So now the only running Alfa at my house is not mine. Despite that, the thermometer on the Droid says it's 68 degrees. What a fabulous day to be in the garage!
