Rough running and hard starting issue
A few weeks back I started having voltage issues where instead of running 14.4 volts, my battery gauge would dip down to 9 volts and all interior lights would be really dim.
I removed the alternator and had it tested and it passed. I'm guessing it's the voltage regulator that took a crap. I noticed the belt going to the alternator was badly worn, so seeing as I purchased all new belts, waterpump, timing belt and tensioner, I decided this would be a good time to just swap everything out.
I have the timing dead on, but when I tried to start the Alfa up, it was running really rough, almost like as if the timing was off. I since then rechecked the timing to confirm that it's still correct and it's still dead on. At one point I jump started the Alfa and it started up and ran decent for a few minutes, but I noticed as soon as I applied pressure to the gas pedal, it sputtered until it got to over 2500rpms. I drove it about 50 feet and it stalled out and since then it won't start back up.
Can a bad voltage regulator be the cause of issues like this? It still seems to me like the timing is off, but all the timing marks are right on. Could this possibly be some kind of sensor issue? I checked a few times to make sure everything was reconnected including all plugs and grounds.
