Automatic Transmission overheating

164L overheat light coming on after a few miles..Fluid level is ok..drives fine otherwise. Any ideas, thanks guys, Mac..

Put a thermometer on it and check it out. The one on my son's S is notoriously untrustworthy. Calibrate it somehow, like with a boiling water bath, or get another calibrated gauge to verify it.

make sure you're not low on fluid as not only is it used to lubricate, but used to cool too. When you check it, make sure the car is warm, on a level surface, still running, and you drove it for about 15 minutes or so.

Check tranny cooler fan blade to see that it turns freely, check fuse in tranny fan relay behind left headlight. Pull relay and jump socket 30 to 87 and see if fan runs with key on.

Take two beers and report your findings.

Re Transmission

Thanks guys wil check out the fan, I have a ground problem somewhere, mainly related to the right hand flasher and brake lights, there may be something there also with the fan/relay ground.. Will check fuse first of course and a temp check with the meter..thanks again..Mac
