whining noise

Hi guys been a while since I've been on(which is good in my case since nothing has been going wrong with the car). Anyway within the last week the old girl has been getting a whining noise coming up from between the engine and transmission at over 1500rpm and on, talked to the guys at my workshops and let them listen to it and they think it might be wear and tear on the distributor shaft. Anyone else got any other ideas that might help us out !! Also is their anyway to adjust the idle speed on these cars since I'm sure she is running to low (700-750 rpm)

Cheers
Trevor (Townsville Australia)

Are we talking 4 or 6 cyl engine here? On V6 dizzy on front head but if noise is dizzy you should remove cap and check rotor for damage and shaft for play. Once rotor tip breaks will be to late.

As for idle it is computer controlled so check dizzy for issues first and then idle actuator electical connector and rotary vane inside for cleanliness and freedom of movement.

She's a V6, looks like it isn't the dizzy anyway since we've had it completely apart and replaced the bushes inside to get rid of any sideward movement that it had. Took it for a drive today and I think I might of found where it is coming from since once she heated up she didn't want to change gears properly with the automatic gearbox and started revving right up and holding on to the gears to long where before hand she would have changed up. Anyone got any ideas since this is over my head at the moment.

Here's another part to the puzzle, if I drive it after a while as I mentioned before it will start holding on to the gears and not change up, but if you pull over on the side of the road turn her off and let it sit for about 30 seconds and start her up the gear change is alright again but you still get the whining. Still can't work this one out.

Have you drained oil and checked condition? Check drain plug magnet and second magnet inside oil filter access cover that is held on with three 10mm bolts.
