1991 S Unknown Wires

There is a black cover attached to the back of the throttle body. This cover has two hoses attached to its top with a metal clamp. There are two black wires extending from the left hand bottom of this cover. They terminate in an insulated two male end (both are quite thin and delicate). On my S, this end has parted company from its proper location. I discovered it while feeling about for the manual transmission dipstick for the first time.

If anyone knows what these two wires should do and where they should properly terminate, it could greatly simplify solving this problem. Are they involved with throttle switches, or do they have some entirely different function? Don't believe I did this while searching for the transmission dipstick, and the car has been running well during my short period of ownership.

Based on where I found them, I suspect their point of attachment is somewhere on the firewall side of engine or transmission. Then again, since they are about twelve to fifteen inches long, it's possible the correct routing could take them to another area entirely.

I've attached two images for clarification with one arrow pointing to the cover and a second to the insulated terminal end.

As always thanks for any input.

They should be for engine throttle micro switch and should also hook connector to 1-2 gear switch in transaxle and a pressure switch on brake master cylinder. Are they green-white and yellow wires?

No they are not. Both wires are black. I assumed two ground wires.

Appreciate your input.

If you still have electronic struts I'll bet the red light is on between the sport and auto buttons. I'm pretty sure those wires are from the throttle position switch for the electronic suspension system. If no one else confirms first I'll look at my S tonight and post more info.

I do believe my L has that same connector and it does not connect to anything.

When ignition key is placed in run position, this red light tests and then extinguishes.

I've been wondering whether this might not be the case. Over the years, I've seen it several times before. Always makes me a bit uneasy though. Was the car made on Monday?

Appreciate all suggestions.

If you pull off black plastic cover over throttle body bell crank and accel cable and you see a small micro switch for those wires you have a 164S set up even if on your L for whatever the reason. According to wiring diagram this switch, the one on master cylinder and the 1-2 switch on tranny are somehow hooked in series so they all work together to help switch struts into Sport mode when you get on a S in 1-2 gear or hit the brakes I guess. There is a rotation sensor on steering column and accelerometers in the trunk, too to talk to the suspension ECU.

My son's now sold S stayed in sport mode all the time so something caused it to default.
