Lightbulb how to remove windsheilds

get a can of ...easy-off.... oven cleaner,, spray the edges of the windsheild, let soak in spray some more..this will soften the bond on the windsheild to the body, then wire it off....

I Doubt it. I watched them install mine and its hard rubber set. He used a hot knife to cut my old one out after destroying the molding.

Audi 5000 and a 164 are totally different. Not that easy to remove. I have tried once with wire and professional window sealant softener and I almost got it but it still cracked. The top is the pain.

The windshield is the biggest deal breaker on these cars at this point with trim unavailable and the windshield itself costing so much. A very hard problem to overcome if you have a busted one or even a heavily scratched old one. I'm thinking about polishing mine with an Eastwood kit to shine it back up. It is a very good question, how to salvage one along with its trim? May not be any easy way, unfortunately.

i remember the trick i was useing to get the windsheild out of that audi.. easyoff oven cleaner,, spray let soak in re spray.. thread a piano wire in start cutting the sealent away.. as i was doing this, i was shoving in popcycle sticks in to prevent the sealend/gasket from re sticking to it self.. lots of popcycle sticks..

Cut away a portion of the gasket in order to get some small diameter nylon rope from exterior to interior and use the rope along the perimeter to unleash the gasket from the interior around the frame by pushing the gasket with a dowel where the rope has breeched. It's a slow process and yes installation is the reverse of removal-of course you don't want to cut your new gasket. It helps to have a friend on the other side as well. Good luck-Ciao.

Gasket?

What gasket? 164 uses a urethane-based adhesive on the windshield, and the glass is said to contribute to the overall strength of the structure. I have watched pros change my 164 windshields 3 times, and they are always surprised by how difficult the process is made by the surrounding metal trim. It would take hours to remove one intact and I doubt any pro would have the patients for it, or be willing to try it again after cracking one in the process. Also beware of the scratches in the windshield frame when they remove the glass as that becomes a great starting point for rust.
