Cash For Clunkers, the lost 164s
Just to pick at an old sore. We lost according to the Gov't list, FYI: http://www.cars.gov/files/official-i...n-vehicles.pdf
91- 12
92- 1
93- 4
94- 5
95- 2
Milano: (which I did not check to see if it even qualified)
88- 2
89- 1
&
1 Unlisted Alfa
I know they're just cars and they're not big numbers, but... there you have it, may we spend a moment to reflect, each in your own way...

Scanning the List, Alfas weren't only the ones to take a hit!
Scan through the list and there are a lot of cars that had to be worth a lot more than $4500. Many of the cars must have had good mileage numbers, and unless replaced by a Prius or similar, probably only got $3500.
Just shows that many people are totally ignorant and will jump on any program that the someone will claim will give them big bucks, even if they are losing more.
Sad to see any Alfa go to the crusher, however, especially when lots of decent parts could have been saved, if not the cars themselves.

I'm amazed at all the cars on that list that didn't even qualify based on MPG. For example all the 240 Volvos on that list, they didn't qualify except for Turbos (and mostly just 740s and 940s), which doesn't jive with any of the model years listed??? Funds rejected? On another note, LOTS of Landcruisers were sacrificed to "the alter of waste." (sorry, "alter of better fuel economy and economic stimulus.") May the economic stimulus fuel itself from here on out. , and may this program never "need" to be re-enacted. Anyone know if A.P.E. got any of these cars?

I hope the guy that traded in the Aston was shot in the back as he walked off the dealer lot.

Maybe the Aston guy thought it was $45,000 not $4500? lol
better yet, maybe a wife exacted revenge on a cheating husband by turning his DB7 in!

There are alot more too...
Turbo trans am
supposedly a buick GNX (worth a huge amount of money and only around 550 built)
replica shelby cobra
TVR 280i
Bentley continental gt
various 2008 model cars and trucks
I just dont understand how people could be so stupid and lazy to trade in a car that would be worth anywhere from 2 to 10 times the money they got for them.

If someone turned in a GNX.........I would like to have a few words. Absolutely no excuse. Let's home someone just had a regal with fake GNX badges on the car.
The Buick Regal GNX...That is one of the coolest cars EVER made (at least I think so - in my top 5 for "attainable" supercars). Ultimate wolf in sheeps' clothing. Darth Vader really would drive one.

I wonder if these were attempted publicity stunts. It certainly was not an economic decision if these were whole and usable cars (not about to fall into a pile of iron oxide).

Sad yes for Alfas but hopefully even with toasted engines some of them get parted out by junkyards aka Auto Part Recyclers before they get crushed.
