CARS vehicles in Pick and Pull
I guess I was misinformed earlier. I was at the pick and pull here in Denver the other day and their were cars from this program on the lot. There was a disclaimer that all engine parts were not to be stripped from the cars. However, there was no differentiation from the CARS vehicles and for example the same model beside it that wasn't in the program.. Funny.

The ones on the list were all newer than '86 and most were '90s models.

I was at picnpull here in Sac and engines heads etc were removed from the "clunker" cars and they even had a 94 or 95 Toyota V6 "clunker" truck for sale. Another failed government program.

well, here is my clunker story. i had a 1996 chevy blazer 4WD that got 15 mpg on a good day, thats average. the car was starting to have it's quirks, needed all new tires, wheel bearing was going bad, radiator needed to be replaced, and the trans started acting up. i had to fix all those things, which wasen't a problem i was capable of doing it all myself. but than cash for clunkers started up, and i looked at the dodge avenger and caliber. i wanted another magnum, but they stopped making them so i settled for the caliber with a 1.8 and a 5 speed manual trans. car was pretty well loaded sunroof, power everything, it was well equiped for a compact car. i qualified for the $4500.00 and dodge gave me another $3500.00, than i put $1000.00 down on top of that, i got the car for $11000.00 out the door. my payments are $225.00 a month, and i have a new car with no worries(yet), my first new car at that! i think i got a good deal, i didn't steal it from them by no means! now i get 30 MPG instead of 15mpg? so when gas goes back to $4.75 a gallon, i think i will be a 1/2 step ahead of the game when i was driving 85 miles a day to work in the blazer, i was almost spending $125.00 a week in gas! that was when it was almost $5.00 a gallon. well, thats my clunkers story!

1991 alfa romeo 164 s parts car being parted
The only good thing to come out of this is the guy's actually parting it out first. Go for it Philadelphia!

Fair enough too, I think the keyword there is '85 miles a day to work', I reckon I'd want a pretty new car too if I was in that situation. Look after your new car well, keep it for many years, and I'm sure it will prove good value. You can always have an Alfa as a second car

For those who don't watch FOX or other responsible news, if one exists, it is now reported that the actual cost to taxpayers was $24000 per vehicle. What a surprise that we paid millions for 4 wheeled hammers

Reason: At least the hammers were redistributed to the poor

Seriously.... the only thing more bizzare than Government math is FOX news math. It sure would be best if we could somehow keep our political views separate from our passion for Alfas.

Actually, the math was strictly from independent consumer group, Edmunds, but most media won't cover anything but the party line, so its getting hard to find both sides of world news. Can anyone believe the micromanaged attacks this administration and some Alfisti seem to love? Sadly, many Alfisti will express their passions mostly in the dark, some ambidextrously. On a lighter note, its good to see that some car lovers can spell and punctuate and I presume they can add as well, so your figures might be a good substitute for off the wall condescension.
If you prefer the Christian Science Monitor, details are here: Edmunds.com fires back at White House cash-for-clunkers slam | csmonitor.com
A Google search might help locate the story from atheist sources as well, for those of you who wildly demand polictical correctness over substance.
What would be really, really, really, nice is if we could separate our Government from our car businesses and most aspects of daily life.

Does the "hammer" mentioned above refer to the one mentioned in this story in the Wall Street Journal?

No special hammer comes to mind, and searches find much more interesting illustration of buying something like hammers that isn't needed in the first place when a rock would probably get the job done.
