Fitting an Alfa Romeo 164 V6 TB Q2 Differential
1 picture -new parts Q2 diff
2 picture- grash speed gear
3 picture- resin wheel speed was
4 picture- old OEM diff
5 picture- new Q2 diff

Bearing preload should be measured and shims added under the right side axle flange. Not sure how you would accomplish this with the tranny in the car though? Must have taken three or four hands to hold that diff up there, while the diff cover was installed?

my shims S=1,35mm P-N=1,27mm+0.08mm not yet 0.04mm
standar formula shims S=P-N+0.12mm

Fitting speedometer gear
I've been away from the forum for a while so I may have missed out on the latest news regarding the Q2 diff. When it came out in 2006 several sources said it would retrofit in the 164 tranny but that it was impossible to fit the speedometer gear on it (cars built in the last 10 years don't have mechanical speedometer drives but use ABS sensor input). Did they change the Q2 differential in the meantime, did you machine it, or what?

If you look in the pictures isn't the nylon gear the speedo gear?

In this post i will gather all the info about which cars you can retrofitting a Q2.
I'll edit my post as soon anyone offer new info on this matter.
If your car use a 95721110 open differentiale then Q2 ( 55208952 ) semi lock will fit to.
This is just a guide ! It is not my or AO (alfaowner.com) responsibility and we are not to blame if don't fit. This is just a guide.

so you increased the inner diameter of the speedometer ring gear? Can you be a bit more specific...what tool did you use, how did you make sure it was straight, would it stay in place?

It looks like only some material was removed from the two tabs, which hold it in place.

Nice project, what might help is a full list of part numbers needed for this project and a write up on what exactly was done. I am not sure anyone will be doing this but if so at least they may have the proper information to use.
I may be able to pick up some of these if folks want to go in on a group purchase. This is something I have wanted to do.

In the latest edition of the Danish Alfa owner magazine I saw a table of the fwd models the Q2 can be retrofitted to. This may include only models where a straight, bolt-on, fit is possible, and there could be other models where it will fit with some work, I suppose. Anyway, of 164 models, I think only the 2.0 V6 turbo was listed. I will double-check tonight.

The Q2 diff was built for the Alfa (really Fiat Auto) C530 transmission at a time when ring speedometer drive had been abandoned.
In 2006-07 the opinion was circulated that it would retrofit into the C503 transmission (as used in the 164) except for the ring gear.
However, looking at a picture in this thread and at
Parts
It looks like it has provisions for the ring gear (notches to hold the tabs on the ring gear). However, if the notches need to be filed down by 3 mm, doesn't this mean that the ring gear will be shifted by 3mm? How well does it engage with the speedometer pinion gear?
Jason, could the reason for the different ring gear part nos be different wheel sizes on the cars in question? Different wheel sizes may require different number of teeth on the speedometer drive if the speedometer is the same.
