Horn

Can someone tell me where the 164's horn is mounted? I couldn't find it anywhere.. One of the notes is broken on mine and I bought a pair of Ferrari-style Italian air horns to replace it

Has anybody else mounted these on a 164? Where did you put them? How bout the compressor?

Horns behind and above area of left front fog light remove left front inner fender liner to gain easier access.

I mounted compressor on air cleaner lower mounting bracket but not much room to do so.

Hi, So do you two have compressed air horns? I need to purchase a new horn for my 91S and would appreciate your 'sound' advise, really how do they sound?
are they like the one at IAP:
Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Lancia Horns
or they have the electric one:
Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Lancia Horns

any preference? what would you choose if you were to do it all again (including the harder air horn installation issues)? thanks
Paul

I am running an old 81 Lancia Beta low/high air horn semi-compact unit with both horn units in one body so it is small and mounts near headlight. I think I even left original horns in place. I just took wires off electric horns and used one of them to run Lancia compressor which is next to air cleaner.

If my 164B was A/T model I couldn't have gotten that Lancia air horn in there because of tranny oil cooler.

When I bought my 164S, car came with FIAMM Serie TA (CH 2 038) E3 Air horns (made in Italy). Unfortunately compressor was weak so I can’t tell how it sounded with full glory. But knowing that PO was very knowledgeable about this car, I trust he made a good choice buying these particular horns.
Mounting was pretty straight forward and all within the same original location behind the front left fog.
I ended up swapping them with the original electric but if I chose to go with airs, I’d probably go with this same air horns as PO said it sounded very authentic.
I hope this helps.

Whatever you do, mount the horns so that the trumpets are protected somewhat from water, and insects. If you face them forward without a baffle of some sort, they will soon be strangled. DAMHIKT!
