I only bought the car recently and test drove quite a few and they all seem to have a comparitively sloppy gearchange to other cars i've driven so I figured its a characteristic of the car. If this is a bad assumption I would appreciate someone letting me know.

Thanks for the reply, since I wrote the thread I have been in a new Facelift model of the 147 and it seems to have the "sloppyness" as the car at the moment so I do believe you are correct to say it is a trait for the cars.
I have a feeling that dealer who quoted you the £300 for the refurbishment of the linkages is trying to pull a fast one because if they where take bad would'nt it be easier to reaplace the lot of them rather than rebuilding them.
Also if another dealership said they where fines kinda points to the one who qouted you was trying to make a quick buck.
