It's a pain in the arse. Those pins are usually stuck pretty hard. I would suggest putting the nut back on the pin and tapping gently to see if you can persuade the pin to come out. I had to beat on mine pretty hard and damaged the threads on the pin. So care must be taken to not hit that thing so hard that you damage the threads. You might want to try the usual substances for "unfreezing" screws and nuts that are stuck hard.
