The Alfa MiTo art car is now touring galleries in the UK.
Tuesday, July 19th, 2011Alfa Romeo’s UK branch commissioned artist Louise Dear to create an art car to introduce the MiTo Sprint, powered by a 1.3 JDTM-2 four-cylinder diesel. The MiTo Sprint emits just 95 grams of co2 per kilometer, a statistic low enough to exempt it from the UK’s congestion charge.

Alfa Romeo’s product plan until 2014 has been leaked on the internet and has revealed that the Italian automaker plans on launching seven new or redesigned models in the next three years, most of which will be available on the U.S. market.
The plan’s strategy sounds like a broken record: to revitalize the Alfa brand and sell the cars in North America, words that have been tossed around time and again since Alfa left U.S. shores in 1994. What’s different this time is that there are actions behind those words and everything seems to be fairly well planned out, not to mention imminent.

If you think the new Alfa Romeo MiTo looks good now, wait until the seriously sporty GTA version is launched. Representing the most powerful model in the range with the GTA designation, the MiTo is expected to arrive following the standard MiTo’s launch in summer 2009. The top range hot-hatch will produce 230hp from a 1.8-liter turbocharged engine with direct injection and variable valve timing.
Although the image above is rendered speculation from the fine folks over at Progetto955.it it looks tantalizingly good with the over sized rims on low-profile tires which fill in the air gap of the bulbous wheel arches quite nicely. The body kit is eccentric, but still, tastefully done. (more…)
